Winter Sowing and Seed Swap with Joyce Morningstar of Star Eagle Gardens, Berkeley Springs

Our last meeting of the year! Note: We meet the second Saturday of this month, instead of our usual third Saturday meeting date.

Winter Sowing is a fun way to begin gardening in February. Using plastic jugs as mini greenhouses outside, you can start many cold weather crops, perennials, and native plants to get a jump start on the season. Joyce will bring sample seeds. Easy and Fun!

Joyce Morningstar Barron has been an organic gardener for over 45 years. She is the co-owner of Star Eagle Gardens, a two-acre sustainable veggie, herb, and flower garden with orchard trees and berries. Joyce is also an herbalist, practicing for 35 years, and has her own line of herbal products she sells. She is a ten-year Master Gardener in Morgan County and has taught the herb class for the Berkeley County Master Gardeners for many years. She and her husband Lee created the Town of Bath Community Garden in Berkeley Springs, growing free food for the local community for the last three years. Joyce’s latest interest is in native plants; she is currently Vice President of the Blue Ridge chapter of the Wild Ones, a native plant educational group. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts, and has been a bead and wire jewelry artist for most of her life. Currently her latest passion is mosaics, creating a 10′ x 10′ face on the side of her home with 1″ ceramic tiles. Joyce is also a Gentle Yoga teacher and has been practicing since the 1970s.

Breakfast begins at 9:00 am followed by the program at 9:30 am. Bring a chair and a breakfast food to share, and garden seeds and plants for exchange.

Turn left onto TJ Jackson traveling slowly as there are some significant speed bumps on that street. Look for Chalcot St. on the left. Turn left onto Chalcot. Carol’s house number is 40 Chalcot and is on the right. The trip from exit 12 on I-81 is about 8 minutes if this route is used.
